Conservation and Restoration of Biodiversity of Village Common Forest in Khagrachari (CRBVCFK)

Objectives :
  • To conserve and restore VCF for improving floral and faunal biodiversity
  • To increase water yield from the VCF
  • To improve institutional and technical capacity of the community for management of VCF
  • To promote alternative income generating activities of the communities in order to reduce their dependence on forest resources
  • To create awareness about the benefit of conservation of VCF forests and biodiversity

  • 128 hectares of VCF came under conservation activities where 40% is conserved naturally without human interference and 60% is conserved by enrichment plantation and establishing fruit orchard
  • Komolchari Polly-Kollyan Somittee (KPKS) has been formed in 8 sub-groups, involving 220 HH members. 2 female groups have been formed in Thanachandra para and Jaduram para.
  • 19-member executive committee is operating the overall management of KPKS.
  • The capacity of organized members in organizational activities, biodiversity conservation, accounts keeping and AIG activities has been increased through the need based training program.
  • Organizational, savings and RLF operation guideline has been prepared and followed.
  • A community resource center has been constructed for KPKS.
  • A 12 minute long video documentary containing project activities has been prepared which has been telecasted in BTV several times. This is also posted in YouTube.
