Context :

Deforestation, forest fragmentation and introduction of exotics are mainly responsible for the loss of native species in Bangladesh. Though there is no exact information about the threatened plants of Bangladesh , but estimation is that a lot of species are threatened and vulnerable. Arannayk Foundation has taken an initiative to develop the regeneration techniques of threatened species for demonstration and conservation of the threatened species in Bangladesh.

Objectives :
  1. Conservation of different species from the threat of extinction
  2. Establishment of a site for future seed source
  3. Enhance scenic beauty of the locality
Objectives :
  1. Selection and identification of threatened species the ESCB Campus locality
  2. Collection of planting materials and establish seed orchard through plantation in and around ESCB Campus
  3. Conduct after care and silvicultural operations
Progress/Achievements :
  1. The silviculturist of Environmental Council visited the locality and identified the following threatened species which are planted in the ESCB Campus: Bakul, Mango (local variety), Margosa (local neem), Gab, Guava (local variety), Blackberry, Tamarind, Garjon, Jarul, Boilam, Telsur, Koroi, Sal, Chapalish, and some other ornamental and medicinal plants.
  2. Seeds and seedlings of the above species were collected.
  3. An orchard of about 2000 seedlings was planted in and around the Campus.
  4. Supervision and monitoring the growth and survival, disease infestation protection of planted seedlings.
