Biodiversity Enhancement and Greening Initiative for Nature (BEGIN)

The project, funded by Robi Axiata Limited, one of the leading mobile phone operators in Bangladesh, aims to protect and conserve rare, threatened, and endangered native tree species by planting 8,000 seedlings on 10 acres of land at Bandarban University in Bandarban. The plantation has been categorized into 5 blocks, which are:

1. Indigenous rare, endangered, and threatened species;

2. Ornamental and flowering plant species;

3. fruit-bearing plant species;

4. medicinal plant species; and

5. Commercial timber species.

In addition to bringing greenery to the campus and adjacent areas, this plantation project will eventually turn into a planned arboretum—a hub of tree diversity for indigenous rare, endangered, and threatened species.

The BEGIN project aligns with Arannayk’s strategic objective to engage the private sector in the conservation of biodiversity and will contribute to achieving SDGS 13 (climate action), 15 (life on land), and 17 (partnerships to achieve the goal).
