Strengthening Elephant Response Teams to mitigate Human-Elephant Conflict in Bangladesh

Funded by the International Elephant Foundation (IEF), Arannayk Foundation has been implementing the ‘Strengthening Elephant Response Teams to mitigate Human-Elephant Conflict in Bangladesh” Project in Ukhya Upazila of Coxs Bazar District.

The goal of the project is to minimize HEC by strengthening four community-based Elephant Response Teams (ERTs) and building community capacity for the conservation of Asian elephants in the region. The project will ultimately assist in implementing the Bangladesh Elephant Conservation Action Plan (BECAP) 2018-2027 and international agreements such as the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), Monitoring Illegal Killing of Elephants (MIKE), and the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS).

The objectives of the project are

a) to strengthen four community-based ERTs by providing training and equipment support as necessary, and

b) To increase awareness and sensitize local community people about human-elephant conflict minimization in this region.
