The “Scaling Up Forest Landscape Restoration in Chittagong Hill Tracts, Bangladesh” project (March 2024 – June 2027), implemented by Arannayk Foundation in association with Tahzingdong and BNKS, will scale up forest landscape restoration activities in Bandarban Sadar, Lama, Thanchi and Alikadam Upazilas of Bandarban hill district using proven models developed and piloted earlier in Rowangchari Upazila of the district under USAID’s Compass Activity. It will also endeavor to develop a cheaper alternative to the fruit-tree-based agroforestry model for jhum (shifting cultivation) fields piloted under the Compass project that resource-poor farmers might be able to adopt widely without external funding support. The major focus of the project would be to establish institutional arrangements and strengthen the technical, organizational, and managerial capacities of the local stakeholders, including women, to promote locally led FLR and sustainable natural resource management (NRM) practices. It is targeted that at least 1,000 ha of degraded forest lands would regain tree cover and biodiversity as a result of the project interventions.
