BACKGROUND

Arannayk Foundation, also known as the Bangladesh Tropical Forest Conservation Foundation, is a not-for-profit organization established in 2003 through a joint initiative of the Governments of Bangladesh and the United States. Registered under Section 28 of the Bangladesh Companies Act 1994, it promotes the conservation, protection, restoration, and sustainable use of tropical forests across the country. The Foundation provides both financial and technical assistance to various stakeholders engaged in forest and biodiversity conservation, while also implementing projects funded by national and international development partners. 

Arannayk Foundation is going to implement a project titled “Integrated Climate Adaptation Solutions for the Hindukush Himalaya Region (HICAS) funded by Global Affairs Canada (GAC) to enhance resilience and livelihoods of local communities–particularly women, indigenous through spring shed management, renewable energy powered soler irrigation system, and climate resilient livelihood. The project will be piloted in two selected sites of Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) of Bangladesh, planned in the Bandarban and Khagrachari. 

The objective of the project is to improve climate-resilient and nature-positive livelihoods of women, indigenous people and local communities (IPLCs) in two upazilas of Bandarban and Khagrachari districts by promoting inclusive, watershed-based adaptation practices with biodiversity and climate mitigation co-benefits. It responds to the region’s increasing vulnerability to climate change, particularly affecting marginalized group facing water scarcity, land degradation and socio-economic stresses. 

To implement the project Arannayk Foundation is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of ‘Community Mobilizer’. Appointment of the selected candidates under this advertisement will be subject to the donor’s approval of the aforementioned project for Arannayk Foundation. However, Arannayk Foundation reserves the right to reject any application and to modify or cancel the entire recruitment process at any point in time without any clarification.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the overall guidance of the Executive Director and the Head of Programs of Arannayk Foundation and the supervision of the Program Officer MEL & Project Focal Point; project manager and Technical Officer of the HI-CAS project, the Community Mobilizer will responsible for community engagement and mobilization, support in group formation and capacity building, promote gender equality and social inclusion, assist implementation of project activities. He/She will work closely with local communities, technical team local institutions to support the project planned activities.


SPECIFIC DUTIES

The main tasks for this position would be, but not necessarily limited to, the following:

  • Facilitate community-level mobilization and engagement activities for the successful implementation of project interventions, including gender-responsive climate adaptation, renewable energy (e.g., solar irrigation), springshed management, and climate-resilient agriculture.
  • Organize and conduct community meetings, consultations, focus group discussions, and awareness campaigns, ensuring active participation of women, Indigenous Peoples, and marginalized groups.
  • Support the formation, strengthening, and capacity building of community groups, and women’s groups, Indigenous people and local community for the management of project interventions.
  • Assist project team for the inclusion of Indigenous knowledge, gender equality, and social inclusion principles in community planning and decision-making processes.
  • Assist in the coordination and logistical arrangements for training, workshops, exchange visits, and cross-learning events at the community level.
  • Support data collection and monitoring activities (e.g., attendance, feedback, simple surveys, observations) and ensure timely reporting of field progress and issues.
  • Promote ownership and sustainability of project activities through continuous engagement with local stakeholders and institutions.
  • Assist in documenting success stories, challenges, lessons learned, and case studies from the field.
  • Perform any other tasks assigned by the Executive Director, Program Officer MEL & Project Focal Point and project manager as and when required. 


POSITION SPECIFICATION – COMMUNITY MOBILIZER

Qualifications & Experience required for the position


Formal/Academic Education

Diploma or HSC degree. 


Working experience

  • At least 2 years of working experience.
  • Proven experience working directly with rural communities, Indigenous Peoples, and marginalized groups in participatory development programs.
  • Experience in community mobilization, facilitation of meetings, awareness campaigns, and capacity-building activities.
  • Previous work on projects related to climate change adaptation, agriculture, renewable energy, gender equality, natural resource management, watershed management will be highly valued.
  • Experience in data collection using GPS and other field-based monitoring tools.
  • Direct field experience working with community people in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT), particularly with Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLCs).

  • Strong ability to work flexibly, managing change and competing priorities.
