Arannayk Foundation plays a vital role in wildlife conservation in Bangladesh. Its focus: protecting endangered species, advancing scientific research, and empowering communities to safeguard habitats.
Arannayk Foundation has conducted biodiversity surveys in six protected areas and two community forests, documenting over 600 wildlife species, including 245 birds, 57 reptiles, 25 amphibians, and 45 mammals. It also provided the first photographic evidence in Bangladesh of rare species like the Particolored Flying Squirrel, Hog Badger, and Pallasโs Squirrel. These discoveries inform national conservation strategies.
To reduce human-elephant conflict in Coxโs Bazar, Arannayk formed Elephant Response Teams (ERT) that help protect both wildlife and people. It also supports Community Patrol Groups (CPG) across multiple sites, training local volunteers to prevent poaching and habitat destruction.
Wildlife governance is strengthened through co-management structures, such as Co-Management Committees and Village Conservation Forums, where communities are directly involved in protecting biodiversity.
Arannayk has published popular field guides like Wildlife of Bangladesh and Amphibians and Reptiles of Bangladesh, widely used by universities and conservationists. Through its conservation grants, it funds local and youth-led projects focused on endangered species, helping build a strong grassroots foundation for wildlife protection.
