This project enhanced community-based conservation efforts within the Inani and Ukhiya ranges of Sheikh Jamal Inani National Park (SJINP) by strengthening the capacity of Elephant Response Teams (ERTs) to mitigate human–elephant conflict (HEC). Four ERTs were supported, comprising 40 trained members equipped with logistical resources to assist the Bangladesh Forest Department in safeguarding both communities and elephants.
During the project period, ERTs successfully mitigated 309 HEC incidents and rescued and safely released 138 wildlife species. By establishing plots of non-preferred elephant crops, 27 households were protected from damage to their families and crops, reducing both economic losses and safety risks. Awareness efforts reached 566 community members (300 men and 266 women) through day observances, training, and outreach activities that shared strategies for coexistence with elephants.

To ensure sustainability, the project developed and distributed a range of awareness materials, including manuals, posters, and video documentation, enhancing community knowledge and long-term engagement. By its completion, the initiative had strengthened local resilience, reduced human–elephant conflict, and improved conservation outcomes for wildlife within the SJINP landscape.
