Arannayk Foundation (AF) is one of the leading nature conservation organizations in Bangladesh, established by the Government of Bangladesh and the United States of America in 2003 to support biodiversity conservation, sustainable forest management, climate resilience, and community-based natural resource management. Under a new project titled "Cultivating Change in a Warming World" (a multi-country partnership with Oxfam), AF is expanding its operations in climate-vulnerable landscapes to address interconnected challenges of climate change, food insecurity, and livelihood vulnerabilities.

The program focuses heavily on rural women, smallholder farmers, and climate-vulnerable groups, establishing FLOW3R Labs (Farmers’ Lab of Wisdom for Restoration, Rights & Resilience) as community platforms for agroecology, local climate adaptation planning, and community seed systems. By integrating scientific approaches with indigenous knowledge and women-led market value chains, the project aims to build resilient, gender-just food and economic systems that empower grassroots communities to lead climate action.

To enhance institutional strength and sustainability, AF is looking for a Program Officer (Sustainable Agriculture and Livelihoods) to manage and scale its core sustainable agriculture and climate-smart livelihoods portfolio. This pivotal position will support project implementation, innovative programming, and monitoring and evaluation to deepen the Foundation’s grassroots impact and reinforce its legacy as a leader in climate-resilient solutions.

Key responsibilities

Under the overall guidance of the Executive Director and direct supervision from the Head of Programs and Senior Program Officer of Arannayk Foundation, the Program Officer (Sustainable Agriculture and Livelihoods) will be responsible for project implementation, new programming, and other program-related work.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

a) Project management

• Lead in planning, coordination, and execution of all planned activities of assigned projects,
• Develop detailed implementation plans, work breakdown structures, and timelines, ensuring effective use of resources and timely delivery of outputs.
• Oversee field-level climate-smart agriculture interventions, agroforestry models, eco-friendly farming practices, and community livelihood monitoring frameworks.
• Engage actively with government and non-government institutions, grassroots stakeholders, and forest-dependent and adjacent communities in the forest landscape to ensure collaborative governance and sustainable production and market linkages.
• Ensure effective use of financial resources as per the approved organizational and project budget.
• Monitor project risks and challenges proactively, develop mitigation plans, and ensure adaptive management practices are in place.
• Lead in preparing reports, including quarterly progress reports, research reports, annual work plans, and project completion reports etc.

b) Program Development

• Support in design and development of new concepts, expression of interests and project proposals on climate resilient / adaptive agriculture, nature-based solutions (NbS), agro-biodiversity conservation, and sustainable rural livelihoods.
• Develop logical frameworks, theory of change models, results frameworks, and budget narratives in collaboration with technical and finance teams.
• Explore funding opportunities and establish/maintain relationships with donors, strategic partners, and relevant government and non-government actors.
• Capture and apply learnings from current and past projects to improve program design and increase organizational competitiveness in fundraising.

c) Staff Management

• Supervise Arannayk Foundation relevant staff and assigned project teams on promoting a culture of performance, accountability, collaboration, and professional growth.
• Assign responsibilities, supervise task execution, and conduct regular performance appraisals to ensure individual and team effectiveness.
• Facilitate regular team meetings, learning exchanges, and mentoring sessions to promote knowledge sharing and continuous development.
• Support recruitment, onboarding, and capacity building of project staff in collaboration with HR.
• Build the capacity of staff and partners on monitoring tools, data analysis, digital systems, and results reporting through training and hands-on support.

d) Other

• Ensure institutional compliance with internal policies, donor guidelines, and national statutory laws for implementation of activities.
• Ensure a safe, inclusive, and respectful work environment aligned with the organization’s values, safeguarding policy, and wellbeing principles.
• Update and maintain relevant electronic/hardcopy formats and databases of Arannayk Foundation as required.
• Represent the project in internal and external meetings, stakeholder engagements, and donor reviews as the key focal point.
• Keep administrative and financial records, including documents, vouchers, registers, receipts, etc., related to your activities in your safe custody for submission to Arannayk Foundation and to comply with the audit requirements.
• Collaborate with program, finance, and administrative staff to ensure systems are following donor and Arannayk Foundation Management Systems.
• Conduct any other tasks as assigned by the Executive Director and the Head of Programs of Arannayk Foundation on a day-to-day basis.

POSITION SPECIFICATION – Program Officer (Sustainable Agriculture and Livelihoods)

Qualifications & experience required for the position

Formal/academic education

• Master’s degree in Agriculture, Agroforestry, Agronomy, Agricultural Economics, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or a closely related discipline.

Working experience

General experience

• Minimum of 3 to 5 years of progressive professional experience in the development sector, specifically working experience in climate-smart agriculture, community-based livelihoods, agro-ecology, or natural resource management projects in Bangladesh.
• Hands-on experience working in ecologically fragile or climate-vulnerable landscapes such as hill forest buffer zones, coastal belts, haor regions, or drought-prone areas.
• Proven track record of supporting proposal development, fundraising, or program design that resulted in new project funding.
• Experience in establishing new networks or expanding nascent program portfolios within an NGO or INGO context is highly desirable.

Technical competencies

• Program Design & M&E: Strong hands-on experience in project implementation, drafting logical frameworks (LogFrames), and designing Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) tools for livelihood indicators.
• Thematic Knowledge: Deep understanding of Bangladesh’s National Agriculture Policy, National Adaptation Plan (NAP), Delta Plan 2100, and global sustainable agricultural practices.
• Donor Knowledge: Familiarity with the compliance, reporting, and proposal formats of major environmental and livelihoods donors.

Soft skills & attributes

• Entrepreneurial Mindset: Highly proactive with the ability to work independently to build a portfolio from its early stages.
• Networking & Representation: Excellent interpersonal skills to build partnerships with government agencies (such as the Department of Agricultural Extension), research bodies (BARI, BRRI), academia, and local farming communities.
• Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in both English and Bangla, with a demonstrated ability to write high-quality project reports and concept notes.

Language skills (Necessary to perform the job)

• Good presentation, writing and spoken communication skills in English and Bangla are essential.

Contract tenure

• 15 September 2026 to 30 September 2027, initially for one year with the possibility of extension subject to donor funding depending on performance and organizational requirements. However, the contract shall be terminated if donor funding is discontinued during the agreed contract period.
