BACKGROUND

Arannayk Foundation, also known as the Bangladesh Tropical Forest Conservation Foundation, is a not-for-profit organization established in 2003 through a joint initiative of the Governments of Bangladesh and the United States. Registered under Section 28 of the Bangladesh Companies Act 1994, it promotes the conservation, protection, restoration, and sustainable use of tropical forests across the country. The Foundation provides both financial and technical assistance to various stakeholders engaged in forest and biodiversity conservation, while also implementing projects funded by national and international development partners. 

Arannayk Foundation is going to implement a project titled “Integrated Climate Adaptation Solutions for the Hindukush Himalaya Region (HI-CAS) funded by Global Affairs Canada (GAC) to enhance resilience and livelihoods of local communities–particularly women, indigenous through springshed management, renewable energy-powered soler irrigation system, and climate-resilient livelihood. The project will be piloted in two selected sites of Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) of Bangladesh, planned in the Bandarban and Khagrachari. 

The objective of the project is to improve climate-resilient and nature-positive livelihoods of women, indigenous people and local communities (IPLCs) in two upazilas of Bandarban and Khagrachari districts by promoting inclusive, watershed-based adaptation practices with biodiversity and climate mitigation co-benefits. It responds to the region’s increasing vulnerability to climate change, particularly affecting marginalized groups facing water scarcity, land degradation and socio-economic stresses. This project particularly aims to ensure gender equality and inclusion of mostly women and indigenous people by forming gender and socially inclusive user groups. 

To implement the project Arannayk Foundation is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of ‘Project Manager’. Appointment of the selected candidates under this advertisement will be subject to the donor’s approval of the aforementioned project for Arannayk Foundation. However, Arannayk Foundation reserves the right to reject any application and to modify or cancel the entire recruitment process at any point in time without any clarification.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the overall guidance of the Executive Director and the Head of Programs of Arannayk Foundation and the direct supervision of the Program Officer MEL & Project Focal Point of the HI-CAS project, the Project Manager will be responsible for overall coordination, management, and implementation of the HI-CAS project at the field level, ensuring achievement of project outcomes and deliverables in line with donor requirements.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

The main tasks for this position would be, but not necessarily limited to, the following:

  • Lead field-level planning, coordination, and execution of project activities in Bandarban and Khagrachari.
  • Facilitate identification of springsheds, feasibility studies, baseline surveys, and pilot site selection in collaboration with ICIMOD.
  • Ensure participatory co-design and implementation of gender-responsive Integrated Adaptation Solution Packages (IASPs).
  • Establish and strengthen community institutions (women’s groups, IPLC networks, user groups) and support development of inclusive bylaws and operational frameworks.
  • Oversee installation of renewable energy solutions, irrigation systems, and ecosystem restoration interventions.
  • Mobilize and engage women’s groups, IPLCs, and local institutions in planning and implementation.
  • Coordinate and conduct community training on springshed management, agrobiodiversity, and renewable energy use.
  • Support formation and strengthening of water user groups, agrobiodiversity committees, and seed banks.
  • Ensure integration of Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) principles in all project interventions.
  • Prepare quarterly and annual progress reports as per ICIMOD and donor requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of training sessions, outreach events, and cross-learning visits.
  • Track and document project indicators, lessons learned, and best practices for knowledge sharing.
  • Facilitate joint monitoring visits with ICIMOD, subnational government institutions, and other stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with local and sub-national government institutions to align project interventions with development priorities.
  • Lead in organizing the district and national level workshops, knowledge-sharing events, and awareness campaigns.
  • Contribute to policy dialogues by generating evidence and documentation from pilot experiences.
  • Ensure proper utilization of project funds in line with approved budget and donor requirements.
  • Provide timely financial and technical deliverables for fund disbursement.
  • Maintain compliance with ICIMOD and Arannayk Foundation’s policies and procedures.
  • Ensure regular update and verify the activity summary and monitoring data into the project’s monitoring system as suggested by the MEL unit.
  • Ensure weekly social media content highlighting project interventions and achievements, staff and beneficiary spotlight, etc.
  • Perform any other tasks assigned by the Executive Director and Program Officer MEL & Project Focal Point as and when required. 


POSITION SPECIFICATION – PROJECT MANAGER

Qualifications & Experience required for the position

Formal/Academic education

Master’s degree with a Bachelor's in Forestry, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Geography, Development Studies, or related field.

Working experience

  • At least eight years of progressively responsible experience in natural resource management, with at least three years of experience in project management and two years of experience in CHT.
  • Proven working experience in managing multi-stakeholder projects involving communities, NGOs, and government agencies.
  • Experience in implementing climate adaptation, renewable energy, or biodiversity conservation projects. 
  • Strong skills in participatory planning, community mobilization, and GESI integration.
  • Demonstrated capacity to produce high-quality reports, financial documentation, and donor deliverables.

Skill and competencies 

  • Strong leadership, coordination, and team management skills.
  • Excellent facilitation, communication, and negotiation abilities.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to work in complex socio-political contexts.
  • Proficiency in English and Bangla language.
  • Computer literacy: MS Office.
