About Arannayk Foundation

Arannayk Foundation, also known as the Bangladesh Tropical Forest Conservation Foundation, is a not-for-profit organization established in 2003 through a joint initiative of the Governments of Bangladesh and the United States. Registered under Section 28 of the Bangladesh Companies Act 1994, it promotes the conservation, protection, restoration, and sustainable use of tropical forests across the country. The Foundation provides both financial and technical assistance to various stakeholders engaged in forest and biodiversity conservation, while also implementing projects funded by national and international development partners. 

Job Context

The Arannayk Foundation is now implementing the IUCN-funded, 30-month project (July 2025–December 2027) titled “Beyond Border: Securing Big Cats and Their Habitats across the Chittagong–Lushai Transboundary Landscape of Bangladesh and India”, to secure clouded leopards and common leopards in the Chittagong-Lushai transboundary landscape of Bangladesh and India. Through scientific monitoring, habitat restoration, and community partnerships, the project reduces threats to big cats, prey, and corridors while delivering sustainable livelihoods to local communities in the Chittagong Hill Tracts. We invite passionate professionals to join our team as a Technical Officer to make a real impact in this vital conservation effort.

 

Key Responsibilities

The Technical Officer will provide hands-on technical support to ensure that conservation, habitat restoration, monitoring, and livelihood-related activities are implemented effectively, in line with approved project plans, safeguards, and donor requirements.

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES

  • Assist Project Manager in end-to-end project planning, financial management, and risk mitigation, ensuring regulatory compliance and seamless coordination between partners and other institutions.
  • Support Project Manager in maintaining MEAL standards by overseeing data verification against the logical framework and ESMP, while facilitating evaluations and assessments to track project impact.
  • Assist Project Manager in managing field team performance and growth through task coordination, knowledge-sharing sessions, and supporting capacity-building initiatives.
  • Support Project Manager in production of high-quality donor reports and outreach materials while ensuring adherence to safeguarding policies and executing priority operational tasks.
  • Implementation of camera trapping exercise, field-level conservation and habitat management activities, including restoration, monitoring, and community-based actions.
  • Support data collection, basic analysis, and field reporting related to conservation, livelihoods, and community participation.
  • Monitoring target species, biodiversity indicators, and habitat condition, following approved protocols.
  • Provide technical guidance to indigenous/community groups, youth volunteers, and local institutions involved in project activities.
  • Ensure field activities comply with environmental, social, and GESI safeguards.
  • Assist Project Manager in coordinating training, demonstrations, and field-based learning events.
  • Lead documentation of field observations, lessons learned, challenges, and best practices.
  • Work closely with field staffs and volunteers to ensure strong community engagement and local ownership.
  • Maintain regular communication with the Project Manager on progress, risks, and technical issues.
  • Perform any other relevant technical tasks assigned by project management.

 

POSITION SPECIFICATION – Technical Officer

Qualifications & Experience required for the position

 

Formal/Academic Education

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in forestry, Wildlife Biology, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Ecology, or a closely related discipline.
  • Candidates with strong field experience but slightly different academic backgrounds may be considered.

 

Working experience

 

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant field-based experience. Experience in camera trapping, species conservation, biodiversity management, habitat restoration, or natural resource management projects will get preference.
  • Experience working in remote areas of Bangladesh, experience in CHT areas will get preferences.
  • Experience supporting community-based conservation, livelihood interventions, or biodiversity monitoring will be considered an advantage.

 

 

 

Training & Experience

 

  • Training or hands-on experience in one or more of the following:
  • Having experience in using camera trapping for biodiversity or wildlife monitoring techniques. 
  • Habitat restoration or forest management practices
  • Community-based natural resource management
  • Data collection, basic surveys, and field documentation
  • Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI)
  • Environmental and social safeguards
  • Having experience in FGD, KII, and social survey
  • Experience in conducting trainings, workshops, or field demonstrations is desirable.

 

Language skills (Necessary to perform the job)

 

  • Bangla: Fluent (spoken and written).
  • Ability to communicate effectively with local Indigenous communities.
  • Basic working proficiency in English for reporting and communication.

 

Computer literacy 

Experience in office software packages (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.),

Salary

 

Consolidated monthly salary BDT 47,400 - 50,244.

  • Strong ability to work flexibly, manage change, and handle competing priorities in challenging field conditions.
  • Demonstrates non-discriminatory and gender-sensitive attitudes, with a clear understanding of safeguarding and child protection principles.
  • Commitment to protecting children and persons with disabilities in all project-related activities.
  • Respectful of and compliant with the organization’s safeguarding policies and codes of conduct.
  • Motorcycle driving skills will be an added advantage due to field mobility requirements.
  • Subject to fulfillment of other criteria as mentioned above, and local candidates having language skills in the local dialect of Rangamati / Bandarban areas and willing to work and stay at the remote project sites, will be given preference and are encouraged to apply.

Contract Tenure

One year (1st March 2026 to 28th February 2027) with the possibility of extension based on performance and organizational requirements.
