Identification, assessment and verification of Potential OECM (Other Effective Area based Conservation Measures) with in-situ biodiversity conservation importance in Bangladesh

The OECM (Other Effective Area based Conservation Measures) project, funded by Bangladesh Forest Department under SUFAL project, aimed to develop a mechanism for biodiversity conservation in Bangladesh that will contribute to achieve Bangladesh’s CBD targets for in-situ conservation, including Aichi Target 11 and targets for in-situ conservation under the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework. This project will also explore other potential (at least 45) OECMs in Bangladesh that meet the criteria set up by the World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA)

Objectives

  • To establish a national mechanism for identification, assessment, selection, and documentation of OECMs.
  • To identify and document at least 45 OECMs in Bangladesh that meet the criteria set up by the World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA).
