Trade Bodies agree on keeping harmony between the environment and business practices; call for govt. incentives: Speakers at Arannayk Foundation’s workshop

April 29, 2023, Dhaka: Sustainable development requires maintaining a balance between the environment and industrialization. Hence the business leaders of the country's important trade bodies and CEO’s & MD’s of the top conglomerates have reached a consensus to ensure the conservation of natural resources through their business practices. 

They reached this consensus at a workshop titled Natural Resources Conservation in Bangladesh: Scope of Private Sector Engagement organized by the Arannayk Foundation held on Saturday morning at a city hotel.

However, business leaders commented that it is important to provide government incentives for environment-friendly industrialization. They also urged global buyers to pay fair prices for clothes produced in environment-friendly factories.

The workshop is organized under USAID’s Green Life Project being implemented by Arannayk Foundation.

Dr. Muhammad Khan, Director of the Economic Growth Office, USAID Bangladesh graced the event as the chief guest.

While speaking, he said that USAID has been working to protect natural resources since 1990. Recalling the contribution of the private sector in the economic development of Bangladesh, he said that the development of the private sector has reduced the country’s dependence on foreign assistance. Intimate engagement is a must for Forest conservation: Speakers at a discussion meeting of Co-management day organized by Arannayk Foundation

March 23, Dhaka: To ensure the sustainable use of forest resources, the active engagement of co-management committees is a must. Therefore, achieving their stable financial capacity is essential. Speakers at the discussion meeting marking the Co-management day 2023 made these remarks.

On Thursday afternoon, Arannayk Foundation organized this discussion at its head office in the capital and local office at Ukhiya, Coxsbazar.

On March 23, 2008, Rafiqul Islam, a member of the Teknaf Wildlife Sanctuary Community Patrolling Group (CPG), was stabbed to death by illegal timber loggers. Commemorating his supreme sacrifice, Bangladesh Forest Department has been observing this day as Co-Management Day since 2009.

Arannayk Foundation to introduce the country’s first-ever OECM program to protect Biodiversity.

March 16, Dhaka: Arannayk Foundation has initiated Bangladesh’s first-ever program for identifying and assessing potential geographical sites for other effective area-based conservation measures (OECMs). Under this initiative, Arannayk Foundation will establish a national mechanism for the identification, assessment, selection, and documentation of at least 45 OECMs in Bangladesh by June this year.

Arannayk Foundation revealed this information during a workshop titled “Identification of OECMs in Bangladesh” held at Ban Bhaban in the capital today.

Speaking as the Chief Guest, Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change Dr. Farhina Ahmed said, OECMs will help achieve SDG targets which the Bangladesh government is committed to.
