A Resounding Celebration for World Elephant Day!

With great joy, we share the remarkable event orchestrated by the collaborative efforts of USAID's GREEN LIFE project and Arannayk Foundation held on 12th August 2023 at the Inani CMC Office, Ukhiya, Cox's Bazar. 

The day commenced with a vibrant rally, where our collective voices echoed our unwavering commitment to safeguarding elephants and their habitats. This symbolic procession aimed to ignite awareness and foster empathy for these magnificent creatures.

 Our event was graced by the presence of esteemed dignitaries from the Bangladesh Forest Department, including Mr. Md. Sarwoar Alam, Divisional Forest Officer of Cox's Bazar South Forest Division, who adorned the role of Chief Guest. A compelling awareness session on Human Elephant Conflict Mitigation was delivered by Mr. Ashis Kumar Datta, Consultant at Arannayk Foundation, shedding light on elephants' significance and the urgent need for their protection. The participants competed in a quiz competition specifically focused on elephants as part of the awareness-raising campaign as well.

We extend heartfelt gratitude to the International Elephant Foundation for extending their help that is assisting us to magnify our impact in the realm of elephant conservation.

 Our GREEN LIFE project team, along with dedicated beat officers, rangers, and the local community, demonstrated the strength of collaboration in nurturing our natural heritage.

At Arannayk Foundation, we are driven by a shared vision of coexistence and conservation. This event was a poignant stride toward a future where elephants thrive alongside humans in harmony. We're thrilled to announce a new partnership with Creative Conservation Alliance.

As we both are working at the intersection of biodiversity issues and actions, this Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) sets the stage for an incredible collaboration to protect our country’s diverse wildlife and natural habitats.

Through this MoU, we will be exploring opportunities to conserve species and biodiversity while conserving ecosystem services, designing, and implementing programs to safeguard vulnerable and critically endangered species, raising community awareness, and promoting engagement to minimize human-wildlife conflict, collaborating on programs, including wildlife conservation, that benefit our environment.

We're especially excited about our joint efforts to scale effective interventions in wildlife conservation, tackle wildlife crime prevention, and implement species conservation measures for critically threatened animals. 

The progress review meeting of the #ArannaykFoundation implemented GREEN LIFE project, funded by #USAID, was held on 12th June 2022 at the conference room of Arannayk Foundation headquarter. The GREEN LIFE project team presented the activities and achievements of the project during the April - June 2022 Quarter to the USAID team that consisted of the USAID Agreement Officer’s Representative (AOR) for the GREEN LIFE Project Aklima Haque and the AORs for the other two Local Works projects of USAID - Tanzila Tasnuva (AOR for ECOLIFE Project, implemented by NACOM) and Shahadat Hossain Shakil (AOR for Nature and Life Project, implemented by CODEC).The USAID team offered their valuable feedback on the ongoing and completed activities of the GREEN LIFE project and suggested ways to addressing the challenges being faced by the project. Arannayk Foundation’s Executive Director Rakibul Hasan Mukul was present in this meeting.

ইউএসএআইডি'র অর্থায়নে ও আরণ্যক ফাউন্ডেশন (Arannayk Foundation )কর্তৃক বাস্তবায়নাধীন গ্রীন লাইফ প্রকল্পের সহায়তায় উখিয়া উপজেলায় প্রাথমিক বিদ্যালয়ের শিক্ষার্থীদের মধ্যে চারা বিতরণের কার্যক্রম শুরু হয়েছে। উখিয়া উপজেলার ৫ টি ইউনিয়নের ১৬ টি প্রাথমিক বিদ্যালয় ও মাদ্রাসায় মোট ৪৫১০ জন ছাত্র ছাত্রীকে একটি করে ফলদ, কাষ্ঠল ও ঔষধী গাছের মোট ১৩,৫৩০ টি চারা বিতরণ করা হবে। চারা বিতরণের প্রথম দিনে গত ২১ জুন ২০২২ খ্রীঃ জালিয়াপালং সরকারি প্রাথমিক বিদ্যালয় ও উত্তর বড়বিল সরকারি প্রাথমিক বিদ্যালয়ের ৭৯৩ জন ছাত্র-ছাত্রীকে ২,৩৭৯ টি চারা বিতরণ করা হয়।বৃষ্টি বিঘ্নিত চারা বিতরণ অনুষ্ঠানে সংশ্লিষ্ট বিদ্যালয়ের শিক্ষক, শিক্ষার্থীবৃন্দ, গ্রীন লাইফ প্রকল্প প্রতিনিধিবৃন্দ উপস্থিত ছিলেন। উল্লেখ্য, করোনাকালীন বিদ্যালয়সমূহে সাধারণ ছুটি থাকায় প্রকল্পের ১ম এবং ২য় বছরের নির্ধারিত চারা বিতরণ সম্ভবপর না হওয়ায় প্রকল্পের ৩য় বছরে তা সম্পূর্ণরূপে বিতরণের পদক্ষেপ নেয়া হয়েছে।

On 18th July 2022, the #USAID team consisting of Aklima Haque (the Agreement Officer’s Representative (AOR) for the GREEN LIFE Project), Shahadat Hossain Shakil (AOR for Nature and Life Project, implemented by CODEC), Ashraful Haque (Natural Resources Management Specialist, EG Office), Shayan Shafi (Senior Energy Advisor, EG Office), Marieme Foote (2021 Payne Fellow, EG Office) and Farin Islam (MEL Specialist, Program Office) visited USAID funded and #Arannayk_Foundation implemented #GREEN_LIFE_Project activities in Ruppoti Modhyompara and Boro Inani West villages in Jaliapalong Union of Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar.At Ruppoti Modhyompara, the visitors had a meeting with 15 members of the Ruppoti Modhyompara Green Life Samity (AGLS) and visited the demo plots on the bed and trellis methods of year-round vegetable cultivation, vermicompost production and improved methods of poultry and goat in the village including the adoption of the improved practices by the AGLS members. Then they visited the institutional plantation of 2021 and a group-operated mini poultry farm at Boro Inani West village and two shops of two Local Service Providers (LSPs) at Boro Inani Bazar. Finally, the visitors visited the CMC Office of Sheikh Jamal Inani National Park (SJINP) and had a meeting with some members of the Co-Management Executive Committee (CMEC), People’s Forum Executive Committee (PFEC), Community Patrol Groups (CPG) and Elephant Response Teams (ERT) of the SJINP, including the CMEC President, PFEC President and Range Officer of Inani Range to learn about their ongoing co-management activities and future plans.The visiting team was accompanied by the Project Director of GREEN LIFE Project Mohd Abdul Quddus, Field Coordinator Mr. Mahbubur Rahman, Livelihood Specialist Ashraful Karim and other field staff.#AF #ArannaykFoundation #ForestConservation
